Who Stole The American Dream? – A Book Review

When Burke Hedges wrote the book ” Who Stole The American Dream” he had no way of knowing at that time what was going to come in the economy and job market in America today. Just how does what he said in the early 1990′s help us almost 20 years later. The jobless rate is high, higher than it has been in years, there really does not seem to be job security maybe even less than what he stated in the book at the time of printing. How big of role should network marketing play in today’s world and how can you get involved?

What is the American Dream? Is one of the first questions asked in the book. Maybe it is a little different for everyone but a common thread seems to be financial freedom, to be able to do what you want when you want. The sad truth is that at age 65 nearly 95% of all people are dead, dead broke, still working, or dependent on family, church, or state. That means only 5% are financially independent upon retirement. What happened to the American Dream?

Network Marketing is a term that almost everyone has heard but maybe it has been linked to other terms like pyramid scheme, Ponzi scheme, multi-level pyramid could all be things stated about the network marketing industry. Did you know that the multi-level pyramid it a natural structure and every oragnization that distributes goods and services is a pyramid shape with multi-levels? According to the book American businesses, government, education, and even churches are pyramids. Pyramids like anything can be good or bad. There are both legal and illegal pyramids and what makes it a scheme is when the value stops flowing down. Carlo “Charles” Ponzi created the largest money taking scheme making a name for himself when ever a bi rip-off takes place it is now called a Ponzi Scheme. The book goes on to state the largest pyramid scheme in the world is legal and it was created by the U.S. government and is called Social Security.

Burke goes on to explain how charities and education are helping to steal the American Dream. Big charities are non-profit for you and me but huge profits for the hypocrites that run them. Just when you though that you were helping kids or cancer research you have now found out that the directors have taken hundreds of thousands for themselves and added perks like luxury vacations with your donations. Not just a pyramid scheme but illegal, unethical, and immoral.

Next he gets into education. Colleges and universities are big business and should be judged by their production. About 90% of all graduates are not working in the field that they went to school for in the first place. If not for endowments these institutions would not survive. If they were forced to operate like a real business they would go bankrupt in a year. What other options are there?

Many people choose to open their own small business to try and reach the American Dream. The fact is that 90 percent of all conventional small businesses failing the first 5 years and of the ten percent that make it past that only a few make it past ten years. It is harder and harder for small businesses to be successful in the market today. Franchising is another option but you have to have such a substantial amount of money to buy one then add the real estate and equipment. The profit in this type of enterprise is not that great for the amount of risk and headache involved. Most who own a franchise eventually like to have more that one to actually make a decent profit. These options do not sound like the picture of the American Dream either. There must be a choice left for the average American to reach their dream. There is and that is what we are going to talk about next.

Network Marketing is what the author believes to be the best option for anyone to build their American Dream. As the world changed to did our shopping habits and options. From the first general store,to the 5 &10 department stores,to shopping centers and malls, to franchises, to network marketing. It is all about the distribution and how the network marketing model is saving the companies money. The networking model saves the company by eliminating in house sales force and the huge amounts spent on advertising. One of the best things is that it is a cash business they only pay the distributor after the sale has been made which is so important and is why the parent company can pay the successful home based business owner such high commissions.

There are people from all walks of life in the network marketing field and companies the sell almost anything you can get in a store. Anyone who is willing to build a business and wants to get paid for what they do should take part in network marketing.Th 80-20 rule takes place in just about everything meaning 20 percent of the people do 80 percent of the work. Are you ready to be part of the 20 percent? Burke goes on to explain exactly how the networking is structured and how our government tries to block anyone from finding out how much people really are making as networkers. Is this to keep us from reaching the American Dream? The book goes on to talk about building a multi-level business.

Since this book has been published much has changed in the MLM field. Many companies offer web sites to help to build a business and social networking has exploded the networking industry. How has that changed things in the last 20 years? You are no longer limited to the few people that you personally know. The sky is the limit when it comes to marketing on the internet. A Book – The Perfect Gift?

Do you know anyone who read books, and do you give away books?

A lot of people all over the world love reading, and books will always be a great gift.

I will go so far to say that there is a book for everyone, many of them just do not know it yet. I have not been reading a lot in the first 25 years of my life, just magazines and newspapers. What happened to me was actually that I got a book for Christmas that I just had to read. The reason I had to read it was that the one who gave it to me always tried to discuss the book with me.

I started reading that book, and I found out that I really loved it. That book was The Redbreast by Jo Nesbo. After I finished that book I had to read the ref his book too, and that way I became the book lover I am today. I have finished all the books written by Jo Nesbo, and read at least one book a week.

I have a friend who does not like books at all, he told me that he never read a book in his life, he is 42 years old. I know he loves to travel, and I told him about this great book he should read. He said no, but I left the book at his place just in case. Two weeks later he to me how great the book was and that when he started he just could not stop reading. I was quite satisfied with that and reminded him what he told me before he started reading.

3 weeks ago I was in the library, a place I go once a month. When I was there I found a book for my daughter too, thinking it would be a great way to improve her reading (she is 8 years). The book was about 60-70 pages and it was suitable for 8 year olds. I was very surprised that she started reading the same afternoon, and that she finished the book in 5 days. Now she asks for new books all the time, and she loves reading.

Now that we are getting close to Christmas I guess many people consider buying books, or maybe a reader for electronic ones.

A lot of people buy this stuff online, and if you are among the ones who plan to buy a book to someone for Christmas you should take action soon to be sure you get it in time.

Find Cheap Books For Sale

Many times it would appear that to conserve money one has to quit various loved pastimes or interests that are viewed as non-essentials. Nevertheless, in case your obsession is reading this isn’t true. For those who like reading, they may easily be lent books from their nearby library or maybe they might get them with significantly cheaper prices from online bookstores that sell secondhand books.

An online search should show a wide range of websites where anybody can get hold of previously owned books, the majority of which are still in good shape. In general, cheap used books present far more value. Students, in particular, can save a fortune by buying secondhand textbooks online, where free delivery is sometimes featured. Instead of paying for completely new books, the cost savings can turn to many other requirements for instance meals, method of travel or college costs.

On top of that, individuals struggling to find older titles regularly have better luck at thrift stores when compared to an average bookstore, especially when they may be on the lookout for a title to complete a collection. Many classics are out of print, however occasionally, people get lucky and see them in online bookstores specializing in hard-to-find titles and cheap used books.

This is mainly because it is not strange for some people to obtain books brand new, read them once or perhaps twice, and deliver these to a used bookstore. For that matter, you would be amazed how many people acquire brand new books just to read while waiting at bus stops, riding a train or perhaps waiting in the doctor’s office and after that just forget about them eventually, never completing them. It’s a waste of money for them but tend to benefit people who favor our books used.

In spite of this, cheap books don’t invariably mean used or secondhand. A few stores overstock books and then resell unsold stock at marked down prices. Generally, the less well-known a title is, the bigger the price cut is. Individuals have distinct preferences in books, and what might not be a well known success these days may be a hit with discount consumers someday.

For a few people, there can be a unique wonder within books uncovered inside thrift stores. Notes, highlights, along with additional markings can be like hints to a puzzle and offer books personality that is independent from the story. Some people have a great time speculating about what type of individual last held the book together with where it has been. This is exactly what makes secondhand books fascinating to own.

Individuals donating used books to thrift stores intended for reselling can be friendly to the environment. Even if they go unsold they’re delivered straight to recycling plants where they are transformed into post consumer paper which you can use for making alternative paper items such as grocery bags, stationery, labels, etc.All the same, an even better option is to donate used books to hometown libraries or maybe non profit organizations intended for their particular reading and writing programs. Reselling, giving and recycling are more environment-friendly options to passing along undesired books to trash dumps.

While people will always be drawn to clean, brand new and glossy things you will find there’s particular joy in coming across almost new titles that are a great deal more affordable. Formerly owned books in many instances contain a certain appeal to them which speaks of charm and history. They convey a tale of their own that is outside of the printed pages inside of them. And that is what makes them so special.
